Doors to govt jobs will open soon

The State Government has lifted the ban on recruitment in four government departments, viz. revenue, sales tax, transport and excise opening doors to massive employment. The ban had been imposed in 2010 for one year in government, zilla parishad and education department recruitments. A GR to this effect was circulated by the department of finance. The government has also permitted 3 to 4 % partial recruitment in the other departments.

Currently, the number of government employees in the state is 9.40 lakh. Considering Zilla Parishads and other departments, the figure goes up to 11 to 12 lakhs. After pay revision envisaged in the sixth pay commission put a considerable burden on the state coffers a ban was imposed by finance department last year. The number of employees in the state reduced by 11% or 1 lakh 22000 as a result.

This burdened many departments. Ministers of concerned departments had met the Chief Minister requesting lifting of the ban. But the government had made an exception only regarding the health department. Many works in the state were pending due to the recruitment ban. PWD minister Chagan

Bhujbal had met the then chief minister Ashok Chavan and the current CM to demand lifting of the ban. Due to lakh of employees road works in many areas came to a stand still, he had said. Home Minister R. R Patil too had demanded lifting of the ban.

Meanwhile, state government has decided to fill all the vacancies in departments that are earning revenue for the state. Among them are revenue, excise, transport and sales tax.

Other departments that are not earning revenue should fill up vacancies only if absolutely necessary. This should not go beyond 3 to 4%. The recruitment process in the state is therefore about to restart under the directions of the divisional commissioners. The collector will act as the secretary and senior officers of the concerned departments would be members.
