Why the Police Can’t Track Down Borude

Fugitive encounter specialist Arun Borude is on the run and has so far successfully evaded the long arms of law. It is strongly believed that he is getting logistic and financial backing from some of his associates running real estate companies in Mumbai, while he is on the run along with his wife and daughter.

Borude continues to evade the police net spread out in various parts of the State, in connection with his alleged involvement in raping a 15- year- old girl in Powai. Five teams of Crime Branch sleuths have been on the lookout for Borude since November but have failed to pick up the right trail leading to his hideout.

Crime Branch officials claim that Borude having worked in the Crime Branch is not only familiar with the techniques to track down wanted persons on the run, but is utilising his criminal network and financial backing from friendly business associates in the realty market to support him, to evade arrest.

Mumbai police wanted to financially cripple Borude by freezing his bank accounts in Mumbai, according to senior police officials, but have been unsuccessful.

It is strongly suspected that he being financially supported by realty developers in whose ventures he has invested large sums of tainted funds.

“ Borude is wily and hence has left very little documentary evidence behind which could help the slueths on the trail, to apprehend him. He is on the move with his wife, daughter and personal car driver, and his car too is untraceable. We strongly suspect that Borude has invested tainted funds in some real estate companies in the city and hence is being provided financial services by these developers.

Some of these developers have nexus with criminal gangs and are providing logistic support in various parts of the country. He is fully utilising his expertise in tracking down criminals on the run and also contacts in his criminal network, to frustrate the efforts of the teams of sleuths, engaged in tracking his whereabouts. In short, he is playing a cat and mouse game and till date has outwitted the teams pursuing his movements,” claimed a Crime Branch official.

A senior police official said that Borude had cleverly crafted every move since the day his name figured in the rape case. He had taken utmost care like an accomplished chess player making the proper moves to avoid being checkmated by the team of sleuths pursuing every lead to nab him. When he realised that the time is ripe to escape, he meticulously planned to slip out from the net.

“ Currently, he is believed to be operating with the logistic and financial support of his well- wishers in the realty industry and criminal gangs with whom he shares a friendly business equation. His communication network is intact and highly secretive which is known to only a couple of his trusted well- wishers. In fact, he must be using just a couple of SIM cards registered in others’ names which have been provided by his highly trusted aides.

These aides are providing him not only financial but logistic support for communication.

This has made the task difficult of tracking him down by identifying the location of the SIM cards in use, since we don’t have information on the identity of the SIM card holders or the mobile numbers. Even tracking down the vehicle he is travelling in is difficult, as he was a onetime ace sleuth who trailed criminals on the run,” said the senior official.
